A Day Where I Get Nothing Done

I spent a good amount of time last night washing and folding and sorting laundry. I had them all in neat little (ha! they were HUGE!) piles. I then put my clothes away. This was quite late at night as my friend that came to collect her daughter who comes to our house for three days a week after school basically asked if her family could eat at our home. Long sentence I know. I'm too tired to do better.

Anyway- I love her and her family so I say Ok and she takes my husband, who arrived 4 seconds before from work, to the grocery store to get food for our joint Valentine's dinner. She did good. Much better than I 'cause all I could get myself to do was peel many many potatoes. In total we had four adults and five children to feed, just mashed potatoes would definitely NOT cut it. Stone Soup anyone?

Where was I? Oh yeah, the laundry. Anyway, after dessert and visiting it was past 10 pm on a school night. Ooops. So much for our evening "rhythm". I finally got the kids to bed and my husband passed out from exhaustion on the floor of our daughter's room who is having a hard time staying in her own bed lately.

After the laundry, I fall into bed and I'm sure, snore VERY loudly.

Next morning I hurry through breakfast and the morning begging and pleading to get the kids to continue dressing because usually all they want to do is make funny sounds or look at a book while one sock is dangling beautifully off a foot and a shirt is half on. Brush my own hair? Are you kidding? So, needless to say no laundry put away as I slide out the door in my slippers praying we get to school on time. Not a chance. Road work, or should I say, lanes closed because Cal Trans is trimming trees along the roadside during the morning rush. Slow for the cone zone people.

20 miles later, I realize I have a committee meeting in the neighboring county for my post adoption services agency. Thank goodness for those roadside coffee kiosks. Throw me a latte and I'm gone.

2 hours of agency and county workers congratulating each other on a job well done and planning the next party for Fos Adopt teens. In the car, answering missed phone calls regarding the school auction (yes, STILL) and the mother of Star and DJ asking me if I'll take the girls to the movies with my children on Friday because she doesn't want them to wait until Monday. Huh? Did I plan on taking the kids to the movies? No. I guess she decided I should.

I pass the reservoir. I HAD to take a picture because it FINALLY is a nice day and I can roll (who actually has to ROLL, and not just push a button) down my windows and enjoy the sunshine. I jump back into the car 'cause a weird guy pulls off the road and stares at me (homeland security?).

I stop downtown to get the LAST of the donations for the auction and run up the hill to the house so I can pee in my own toilet. It is now 1pm. School is out early on Thursdays and I am late. I throw my overdue library book into my purse, gulp down some cold mashed potatoes and go pick up my youngest from daycare (even further "up the hill").

I pick him up, stop and buy a gift for one of my clients and go another 20 miles to pick up the older kids who are now in after school care. I drop off the enormous stack of paperwork I have generated for the auction along with the last of the donations and find my daughter wandering around the school parking lot 'cause she saw my car and escaped yard duty. Yard duty arrives. Huge long explanation to daughter as to why this is dangerous. She just wanted to tell me she didn't want me to pick her up. "I'm having fun".

Load kids into car go to our weekly library visit. Am late meeting adoptive mother I am mentoring for the agency at the playground near the library. She is just leaving as we arrive.

Go into the library. Kids actually are quiet and pick out books fairly quickly. We were too late for story time.

Drive through major coffee conglomerate. Arrive at home. Work on my fricking frustrating as heck website from far far below for another 2 hours while kids destroy their clean bedrooms.

Husband comes home wondering where dinner is at and falls onto the HUGE piles of CLEAN laundry in his filthy work clothes. The ones that were still stacked on the couch. The ones that the dog Vito hadn't thrown to the floor in his ferocious attempt to gain comfort while locked inside the house today because I forgot to open the dog door.

I am still doing laundry this evening.

What a day. I need a nap after reading that. Perhaps I can curl up on the laundry next to Vito ;0)

Get some relaxation in!

Oh. my. god. What a day (well, two days really). I know what you mean about getting nothing done, but actually you got a lot done, albeit not according to plan.

That pic is superbly beautiful.

Vito is the cutest. Glad he survived sans dog door.
