Click here to RegisterCourse AbstractChildhood Apraxia of Speech: A Comprehensive Approach to Assessment and TreatmentIn this two day workshop, participants will learn the latest perspectives on Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), with emphasis on practical assessment and treatment approaches and strategies for children from toddlerhood through the adolescent years. Multiple videotaped examples and opportunities to apply concepts to case studies will enhance attendees’ learning.
Learning ObjectivesAs a result of this course, participants will be able to:
Describe theories of the nature and causes of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS).
Identify key characteristics for differential diagnosis of CAS.
Identify appropriate assessment techniques for CAS, from toddlerhood to adolescence.
Analyze assessment results for the development of appropriate intervention goals and objectives.
Identify appropriate intervention strategies and techniques for CAS, from toddlerhood to adolescence.
Course LevelIntermediate/Professional Area. Participants are expected to have some prior academic and/or clinical experience with children with severe speech disorders.Families are most welcome at the workshop with the understanding that the level of presentation will be at the intermediate professional level.
ASHA Continuing Education CreditThe Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association (CASANA) is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language–Hearing Association (ASHA) to provide continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. This program is offered for 1.2 CEUs (Intermediate Level, Professional Area) ASHA CE Provider approval does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures.ASHA CE RegistryAn annual ASHA CE Registry fee is required to register ASHA CEU’s. Shelley L. Velleman, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is an Associate Professor of Communication Disorders at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. With a Ph.D. in linguistics and many years of clinical experience, she strives in her research and her teaching to bridge the gap between theory and clinical practice. Dr. Velleman has authored numerous articles on phonological development and disorders as well as two books: The Childhood Apraxia of Speech Resource Guide and Making Phonology Functional: What Do I Do First? She serves as a member of the CASANA Professional Advisory Board and the ASHA Ad-Hoc Committee on Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Group Rates:
Professional Group Rate of 5 or more registrations $240 each. Please copy registration form as many times as needed and mail group registrations in the same envelope.Confirmation:

Registration Fee Includes:

A handout prepared by the speaker specifically for the program.
Certificate of Attendance verifying successful completion of the course.
ASHA CEU submission. Registration Fee does not include lunch.
Cancellation: Paid registration fees will be refunded, less a $25 administration fee, with a written request postmarked no later than March 1, 2008. There will be no refunds after March 1, 2008. CASANA reserves the right to cancel this workshop with due cause and refund in full. In the event that this workshop is cancelled by CASANA, full refunds of paid registrations will be made on or before June 15, 2008.Directions:Directions to the facility will be included with registration confirmations.
Parking:
Parking Permits are required Monday-Friday (6:00am—5:00pm) and are obtained aat the campus entry kiosks or at the Parking Services Office, Room 150, Hughes Administration Center. No permits are required on weekends. Participants may park in the West and Mission parking structures.
Accommodations:
Days Hotel 619-297-8800, 543 Hotel Circle South, San Diego, CA 92108 (3.01 miles from SDU), $93 plus tax per night. Please ask for the USD rate.Walk-Ins:
